About Susan

Over the years, I’ve heard my mother tell the same story. “Susan rescued her first baby rabbit when she was four. After that, it was something else every week: a bird, a chipmunk, a salamander. Occasionally, she came home with a stray kitten, but it was always something.” That’s me in a nutshell, and little has changed since then. If I see an animal that needs help or love, I’m on it. Most often though, I’m helping and loving on dogs. My dream is to own a ranch where I can both offer overnight care for dogs of all sizes and rescue animals of all sorts.
I consider it a privilege to be able to love on and care for other people’s dogs and would welcome the opportunity to love on and care for yours.
Meet Squirty

I accidentally adopted Squirty. I truly had no intention of adding to the family when I met him, but the stars aligned: My dog Tucker passed, I donated his medicine to Lionel’s Legacy Senior Dog Rescue, I forgot to bring all the medicine and had to go back, I had a doctor’s appointment nearby the next week so I waited until my appointment day, Squirty happened to be at that particular dog rescue, and Squirty was only there visiting that day. Not only that, Squirty was supposed to be leaving the next day! Seriously, if those aren’t circumstances for an accidental adoption, I don’t what are!
When I first saw Squirty, his little face was looking at me through a glass door. Without exaggeration, I can say that when I saw him, I gasped. When offered the opportunity to meet him, I excitedly accepted. He was scrawny and had only one eye, but he had the cutest little naked elephant butt you’ve ever seen. I fell in love instantly, and he came home with me a couple of days later. He didn’t know he weighed only 5 pounds and bossed around our bigger dogs. He loved playing with one particular foam ball and going on adventures, which required his all-time favorite activity: riding in my truck. He wasn’t with us long, but I’m grateful for every minute we had with him. He was a special little character.
About Squirty’s Place

At Squirty’s Place, our goal is to make your dog feel at home. Unless otherwise instructed by you or for the safety of your dog and Squirty’s home-based pack, all guests are free to roam where they choose both inside and outside of our home. Our back yard is fenced in and enclosed by overhead bird netting.
At mealtime, we appreciate etiquette and respect boundaries, so every dog has their own designated spot to eat. Your dog is fed the food you supply and is fed according to your meal plan. Only treats you supply and/or approve of are given. There is no additional charge for administering medications at mealtimes, and elaborate feeding regimens are no problem.
When it comes to napping and bedtime, dog beds are plentiful and diverse. Does your dog like firm orthopedic beds? Medium-density foam beds? Squishy fluff-based beds? Whatever your dog’s preference, we have a bed for that!
Pack walks are typical most mornings. If your dog enjoys being social but doesn’t like to or can’t walk, there’s always room in the stroller. Your dog may be included in other adventures outside of Squirty’s Place if you approve of adventures in advance and if your dog enjoys them. Best of all, Susan works from home, so your dog gets plenty of attention all day long. Squirty’s Place truly is your dog’s home away from home!
